ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday once again granted a one-day exemption to General (retd) Pervez Musharraf from appearing before the court after examining his medical report.

ATC-II judge Sohail Ikram granted the exemption after Musharraf’s counsel, Muhammad Ilyas Siddiqi, moved an application for exemption along with a medical certificate stating Musharraf’s medical condition, in the judge’s detention case.

Meanwhile, Prosecutor Aamir Nadeem Tabish objected that such medical certificates had already been submitted many times and since arrest warrants had been issued for Musharraf over non-appearance the court should not take a lenient position in this matter.  Subsequently, the court adjourned the matter till November 27.

On the next date of hearing the counsel for litigants would present their arguments on the cancellation of arrest warrants for Musharraf.

The current legal proceedings were initiated against Musharraf for detaining over 60 judges, including the former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, after his 2007 proclamation of a state of emergency across the country.
